Mixing Process
Automation > +Musical
Automation is a big part of my mixing process, and essential in creating a musical mix.
This dynamic editing of how everything interacts in the mix is achieved by creating movement, enhancements or space at key moments, on transitions, and throughout the song. This approach sets a musical balance while the emotional expression of the performances is emphasized.
Parallel processing > +Organic
Using FX in parallel means blending compression, harmonic saturation, reverb, etc. with the original
unprocessed vocals and instruments. This approach allows me to retain their natural sound, it keeps the mix from being overprocessed, and the organic feel of the song is kept.
Drum replacement > +Excitment
If needed, I will add/trigger mainly kick and snare samples, and blend them in with the original drums.
This process will reinforce the character and excitment of the drums and assure a consistent foundation
in the mix.
Reference material > +Artist's Vision
Songs express the conceptual and emotional intention of the artist, and the mixing stage can shape that
intention into a final result. I'll be happy to hear your suggestions and reference materials (wether it's the
songs you love, a meaningful experience, or a scene from a movie...) and use them to drive my mix decisions towards an outcome that reflects your sonic vision.
